[li]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I guess USNCO/Intel really are hooks for MIT & Caltech - just know that this is not nearly the case with other more “well-rounded” colleges, such as Stanford.</p>[/li]
<p>[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Well I posted this in hopes of helping the younger generation get an idea of what they should strive for if they are aiming for MIT or Caltech. I never thought I was that great at chem before I made USNCO - but afterward, it really became my passion and I think this showed through on my application.</p>[/li]
<p>Even if MIT is your dream school, try not to be too uptight in your essays/attempt to present yourself as the perfect MIT prototype. I’m not a particularly ‘nerdy’ person if you know me, and my essays were filled with jokes and candid life experiences. Nonetheless, the jokes all tied into my passion for Chemistry and conveyed it more effectively than “I like chemistry. USNCO I attended. Chemistry is my life.” Although my test scores were alright, so were everyone else’s who applied - I knew I needed something to distinguish myself, and I think my essays provided that extra boost.</p>
