Other Factors: I wanted to get into MIT since I was nine and looked ahead at requirements, making sure I met those well. When my mom called them five years ago to find out what it would take, they warned her that most of their admitted freshman had at least one perfect section on the SAT I. I already had that in the Duke TIP SAT taken when I was 13, so we knew I had a decent chance if I worked hard. It helps to have a clear view of your goal if you want to reach it. Also, I chose not to date or go to parties because I felt that could interfere with my college goals. I don’t regret that. You only have so much time and energy. If you’re serious, prove it with your personal choices.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: When I visited, I stayed in a grad dorm and didn’t get as much of a warm fuzzy feel as when I visited the other colleges. We were kind of on our own while the host students did problem sets in our rooms in the evening. I’m going to visit in April and see how it is in an undergrad dorm. I’m not a partier at all, but I want to have a balanced life.
