Oh well, going to kick some butt in school this year and hopefully show the admissions staff why they should accept me in March. Good luck to everybody and congrats to those who got in! To those who got rejected, don’t worry, the fact that you even applied to MIT shows that you care about your education and you are going to end up at a great college either way. Good Luck!

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Lots of science classes
[] Weaknesses: Extracurricular
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Probably comparable to many other deferred students.
[] What would you have done differently?:[/ul] Am I supposed to change who I am to get into college? I don’t see the point in this question.

Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I managed to talk myself into believing that I would get deferred, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Now I get to freak out about college apps over Christmas.

When I visited I thought MIT was the perfect fit for me. So many Doctor Who and Firefly references. Also, working on psets for a class I wasn’t in was fun (and, surprising, not too difficult).

MIT says they don’t care about recruiting or siblings. Well, they aren’t lying. And that’s awesome, because the people who got admitted really deserve it.

hmmm I actually liked my essays for MIT. Perhaps if I could go back in time I would have done more academic competitions. But I gave MIT my best shot! I don’t regret much. On to other college apps.

**Other Factors:**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:

So i’m just going to vent because it’s been a few weeks and I haven’t even wanted to bring it up. I was an offical water polo recruit to MIT. I was invited for a visit and paid several thousand on a visit to MIT in October. The coach was great, I loved him. I stayed a the frat across the Charles with all the players on the team and got drunk and smoked weed and partied with sorority girls and had one of the best weekends of my life. I loved the entire team and by the end of the trip I honestly thought I was on the team. It was wierd. The coach called my cell phone weekly to check in, and when he took my “stats” to admissions they said I looked good. (3.8 unweighted GPA with a 33 on the ACT)
I was rejected. straight up, not deferred. I was shocked. Honestly, WHAT KIND OF SCHOOL CANNOT GET IN ATHLETES that are QUALIFIED? Ivy league recruiting is B.S., I’ll admit. They squeeze in athletes with 3.3 GPA’s and 27-28 on the ACT. I can’t believe that as a top recruited athlete I was rejected to MIT, when I LITERALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED to every other school IN THE WORLD if I was a recruited athlete. No wonder MIT athletics will never be as good as other schools.

Any thoughts, sympathy? :frowning: I’m ****ed.

Your generally-friendly local moderator would like to gently but firmly remind you that this is, in fact, a no-chat thread, and chat will be either moved to the discussion thread here[/url”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1301987-official-mit-class-2016-rd-discussion-thread.html]here or deleted.

This thread will remain locked until decisions are released on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:28 PM EDT.

Good luck and best wishes to all!

PS – I changed the format of the replies, so they will now match the format used for EA this year. Also, in my experience, nobody ever correctly removes the spaces from the remove-the-spaces format, and it just ends up being more work for me to fix everybody’s improper formatting. Give an anal-retentive mod a virtual hug: preview your post before posting, and edit it before the 20-minute edit window closes! :)
