blueheeler…you are all over the place! You have all the prereqs for all those languages and philosophy? I give you props if you do!

no one chanced me!

You’ll be fine at the UCs, aracadefire. The biggest question is UCB. However (like you mentioned), they will probably be forgiving on some of the pre-reqs, so I think you can expect a “yes” from them.

I can’t say anything about the Ivies though. I have no idea how their admissions process works and what exactly they look for in prospective transfers. Hopefully you get in at all your top choices.

What about meeeeeeeee :(

You’re in a good spot, theregoesevan. Anthro doesn’t seem to be an impacted major from the data I’m looking at, so you’ll likely get in at all the schools you’re applying to.

Hey, no one chanced me!

Malak - you’re basically golden with that 4.0. It’s good to know that a fellow PCC and AGS member is on the forums.

how about me?

For my sanity…

College: St. John’s University, NY -> Santa Monica College
Major: Cultural Anthropology
UC GPA: 3.64ish (should be 3.7/3.77 after fall)
Major GPA: 4.0
Done with IGETC and prereqs by Fall 2009.

UC Berkeley
UCLA (top choice) [TAP]
UCSD [TAG]
UCI [TAP]
UCSB (biological anthro) [TAG]

Extracurriculars:
- Filipino Cultural Club officer (publicity, basically a liaison between the board and its members as well as the club and other colleges [PCC, GCC, UCLA, MSMC])
- Scholars Program (TAP for UCI/UCLA)
- couch (well in my case, futon) potato

more extensive HS ECs though…(should I add all/most of these?)
- 300 hours volunteering at a hospital
- 50 hours volunteering at local church as counselor/lector
- Junior year class treasurer
- Asian American club treasurer
- private tutor ~ 6 months
- French national honors society, CSF
- tae kwon do [hella competition gold medals, female student of the year etc]
- Gene Black medical internship with Children’s Hospital

I really just wanna know about UCLA, hah.
And what ECs to put down I guess.

GTR, you’re going to have to bump that GPA! Even SLO might be a little tough, but there have been people who have gotten in with lower than 3.0 (to UCs as well). It’d be awesome if you could raise your GPA to 3.0 by the end of Fall semester and sign TAG - you’ll be in at SD and I for sure.

Erikuh, you know you’re in girl.

haha thanks lol!
I lowkey got nervous today realizing that my entire education/career plan doesn’t quite fit with any other school but UCLA, so I’d be lost and confused if I went elsewhere.

But yeah thanks again fellow SMCer haha.

Thank yea I will definately work on that GPA. Going to practically live in the library during the daylight hours. You can only TAG SD if you have done IGETC right? Since I am an engineering major I haven’t had time to do a lot of the IGETC type courses like humanities, art, or a bio science.

CA community college student
Fall 2010 transfer

3.897 GPA (Only 29 units so far, but I will have at least 60 done by Spring '10.)
Anthropology B.A. Major (My only B so far was in Cultural Anthropology :()
Pre Reqs done by Fall '09 and IGETC done by Spring '10.

ECs: Not much. I was employed during some time while going to school, but not all of it. I might be joining the eco club this semester.

Essays: I am a fairly bad judge of my own writing. But for the most part, I am an above average writer and I will be spending some time on these.

Applying to: Berkeley, LA, SD, Davis

^ Have you looked into TAG/TAP?

Can someone chance me?

My stats:

soCAL community college student
Fall 2010 transfer, will have junior standing

4.0 college GPA, all classes transferable to UCs
Economics/Business Econ major
Will have pre-reqs, IGETC, and 60 semester units complete.
Will also be TAP certified for UCLA and in the Honors Program at my school

College ECs: Vice President of the Student Government at my CC, Campus-wide committee organizer(basically manages all the clubs on campus and appoints leaders), Member of weekly Student Senate meetings(determines what to spend yearly school budget on), Basketball club team member, webmaster of a local fashion website

HS ECs: President of the National Honors Society chapter at my school, Volunteered as UCI medical center as a Lab assistant, Worked at Starbucks for a full year, Worked as a Finishline merchandising intern

Essays: I view myself as a decent writer but I have had varying ranges of responses from people that have read my essay.

Applying to: Berkeley, LA

^ Keep that 4.0 (and TAP) and you’re in.

UCLA and UCB don’t do TAG and those two are my first choices. My school doesn’t have a TAP. Am I severely disadvantaged without them?

^ I’d say with your GPA and major, no, you’re not disadvantaged. Don’t worry about getting a B in cultural anthropology because they don’t check major GPA.

Current School: Pasadena City College

GPA: 3.9 (after one year, 31 units).

Applying to: UCLA, USC (others? must stay in LA area).

Major: International Relations/History (going for IR major at USC, History at UCLA)
Pre Reqs: Will have all completed, including IGETC.

Work: I’ve been working full time for four years at a large television studio as a producer for new media. For the last year I’ve been going to school full time as well. I’ve been part of winning several industry awards (Emmy’s, Webby’s, etc).

High School EC’s: President of my National Charity League Chapter, Cheerleading, Girl Scouts, Crew, Working at a non profit.

AMorrison,

I don’t know too much about USC’s transfer data, but here is a link (you may have seen this already) with UCLA’s transfers by major.

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm

As far as history, it does have an asterisk next to the major, meaning it’s impacted. BUT good news, 3.72 is the average admitted GPA for history, and you have a 3.9 with some good EC’s and employment. I think you have a relatively good shot at UCLA. :)

3.48 gpa after the fall

ucla - iranian studies/philosophy
uci - poli sci
will have 69 units completed after fall
was away from school for 6 years until i went back

essays - havent started yet, but decent when i want to try.

what you guys think about my ucla chances? uci should be guaranteed through tag.
