Consolidating AP tests....or not?

Hi! I'm posting this bc I need advice on what APs I should cut out for next year....or if I should take them all. I had needed advice bc this year I only took APUSH, Micro and Macro, and human geo and do not have experience with how hard/easy the others may be.

Classes (this is all that's offered so these are definite):
Bio
euro

Self-Study:
- environ sci (goes along with bio)

-Pysch (interesting + easy)

Physics B (will be taking w/ advanced course)

-World History (interesting + have a lot of history under my belt so should be fairly easy)

-Gov (would get me out of a req'd class my senior year which would ROCK)

So which ones should get the boot and which ones are manageable? Or are they all OK? I'm used to hard work, so that's not an issue...but I did not know whether one of those was an especially unmanageable self-study. Thanks!

Classes

Oh and I forgot to mention Stats. Would take bc I am interested in Econ and I hear that is closely related :)

As long as you devote time towards your self-studies months before the exams are distributed, you should be fine.

^ Really? That would be great bc I really want to take them all. My biggest concerns are Physics B and Stats I think…does anyone have any experience with self-studying those?

Statistics has no relation at all to AP-level Economics. Higher-level economics has a lot of math involved, although I doubt statistics is part of it (i am very possibly wrong though). However, it’s not that hard anyway, so I suggest Stats, world history would be tough to self study i think but i’m not a history person. gov will be tough as well but not too bad. (I self studied stats)

I think you shouldn’t totally self study Physics B, but you said you had an advanced course, so then you should be fine.

Great! Thanks! Anyone have experience with best books for s-s on any of these subjects?

Oh and @ bobtheboy…I completely concur with it having no relationship with AP but I have heard that stats is closely related to upper-level economics. However, I’m not sure how accurate that is bc I had always heard that upper-level econ was more calc related and was planning on looking into it. Either way though, Id like to take stats  it sounds pretty interesting and would be the only math AP test I would take before senior year

Any other comments or advice would be great thanks :)

I would take Comp Govt as well, since you are doing Govt.

I think you should take English as well since it’s just essays.

As long as you read books once in a while.

Wow I expected everyone to suggest cutting out a lot of APs but thanks for the high opinion I suppose :).

I actually was considering taking AP Lang. Are those essays similiar to AP history ones?

Are comp gov and US that similiar? Bc that would be interesting…

But would self-studying 7 APs be a little over-the-top? I’ve just never seen anyone on CC s-s that many… Esp bc I would like to get 4s and 5s. Anyone have personal experience s-s that many?

-I would definitely take AP Lang and comp gov. However, if you ss both of those I would recommend getting rid of one (but only one) of you others. I personally believe that environmental is not as related to bio as you might think, and may be the least useful (but that depends on your interests.
-As a soon to be economics major, I have learned that AP stats was the biggest waste of my time ever. This year I’m going to have to take intro to stats over again but this time with calculus, so I think it would be worth it to just wait for college. As much as I am interested in economics, stats just wasn’t an interesting class to me anyway.
-Finally, although all those self studies will help your college apps, make sure you have a lot of time for extracurriculars. (I know you know this, but still). Colleges cannot penalize you for not taking a lot of ap classes if your school doesn’t offer them, but there is no excuse for not participating in other activities.

Thanks piccoloplayer!! Alright…I prbly will cut out stats then. That was the one I was most hesitant about taking. Do you have an advice on taking Lang? I was actually very surprised that you guys reccommended that bc I had always heard that it took TONS of writing practice and was not a convenient ss. Would prep books and some writing practice suffice? No worries, I will keep the EC advice in mind thanks :)

So here’s my current list:
Pysch
Physics B
Comp Gov
US Gov
Lang
World History

Btw, I play the picc too :)

Oh, and my classes:
Bio
Euro

And i forgot about ss envrion sci!! Add that too. (sorry I can’t edit stuff I post from my iPhone)

yeah thats an excellent list

Lang is a piece of cake as long as you know your rhetorical devices, which probably 90% of the people who take the exam are too lazy to learn. It’s really not difficult to self-study, especially if you are writing essays for other classes too. Just get used to writing under time constraints (I used to be horrible at this; it felt like there wasn’t enough time to think!)

I have Acadec to thank for experience weiting under time constraints as well as APUSH. Acadec also helped me with literary devices…you are just meaning things like asyndeton, metonomy, apostrophe, etc. Correct? Of course i will have to do additional studying but it’s nice to have a background :)

So here’s my year next year:

-Academic Decathlon
-USABO (…hopefully)
-Self-Studying:

 1. Comp Gov
 2. US Gov
 3. Physics B
 4. Environ Sci
 5. Pysch
 6. Lang
 7. World History

And then other classes, track and field, orchestra, NHS, student council etc. Yes it’s going to be a fun year  haha I kinda just felt compelled to make that list in case anyone felt like yelling “No! Wait! Stop!”. Haha I guess it’s just qualms bc no one at my school has ever done something like that…they thought I was crazy s-s 3 tests this year.

Andddd sometimes I say way to much on this website…haha  sorry

Pysch
Physics B
Comp Gov
US Gov
Lang
World History
Bio
Euro…

Look, Euro is like USH, so you need LOTS of DBQ practice.
Psych is pure memorization, but a LOT.
Now Bio is a killer. It might depend on your teacher, but bio is horrible… probably the most content AP ever.
Govs?? Don’t underestimate them!!
Now you are saying 2 history classes?
And with Physics B, which is the longest Physics AP, in terms of content?

This list shows your ambition, but I doubt you can take more than 6 this year.
You just can’t.

I guess I am a little late… so you take 2+8 APs, plus USABO?
Good luck with that.

Let me tell you, you are going to quit at least 4 self studies in March.
Not to discourage you, but this is overly excessive and … what’s the point?

But hope you do well!

Good luck! :)
