How to colleges look at being on the constitution team? Is it looked at equally as taking AP gov?

More Im just interested in if most colleges understand the level of commitment involved.

Is this for the We the People competition?

not that many people even know what constitution team is, and this usually translates to colleges as well. but it is usually equal to AP US Gov.

and i don’t think colleges know how much commitment the team takes.

Haha, I’m on constitution team at my school, too! You can say what it is/how many hours it requires in the EC section of applications, and for Common App you can write about it in the 150-word short answer. I think the program is more well-known to admissions staff than it seems, I doubt you’d be accused of lying if you wrote down that it takes 20 hours per week or more.

LOL, I was on We the People in high school and no one ever knew what it meant. We won our state and went onto nationals, but I always had to explain it to people, and it seemed odd to people when I did explain it.

At my school they were equivalent - you had to take AP Government to be on the We the People team - but I don’t think it’s seen equally when you do them separately. You learn alot about the U.S. Constitution but honestly there was more to AP Government than just the Constitution, not to mention that you don’t sit for the AP exam or get the classroom instruction if you’re just on the team. I think it’s just seen as a quirky extra-curricular activity, although honestly if more people new what constitution team was they’d take it seriously. That team was a lot of freaking work.

@BMittman, Thats good advice to write about it in the short answer. I may do that.

I would hope that the admissions officers were atleast familiar with it, but it cant hurt to explain it to them.

Yeah, gov constitution team is paired with AP Gov at my school, too.
