Construction Management Bachelor's or Associates?

My plan is to basically get either one and do an apprenticeship ultimately to be able to get a job with the city of Chicago as a building inspector and someday open up a small construction company that remodels and/or does repairs.I have gone to a city college and have several credits and looking to go to a school that will offer a degree in Construction Management. Any suggestion as to how to pick a school? Most school near me either do not have a program for CM or have eliminated it because of low demand which also worries me. Comments? Suggestions?

I suggest you look at the “American Council of Construction Education” website [ACCE[/url] for a listing of schools by state, that are either already accredited or are a candidate for accreditation by ACCE. This is the best starting point. If you are interested in working while you are earning your Construction Management degree, you might want to search for schools with evening courses. I would also suggest that in today’s competitive job market a Bachelors degree would make you more employable than a two year Associates Degree. A compromise solution would be to find a program where the two year degree is in synch with a four year degree, so that if you change your mind and wish to continue on to a Bachelors, you do not lose any time.

Pratt Institute offers a four year Bachelor’s of Professional Studies in Construction Management degree with primarily evening courses that may be of interest to you.
