Construction Noise De Neve- is it loud?

is construction near de neve make it impossible to study or sleep

I don’t go to UCLA, but my sister does and I’m there a lot. I don’t think that the noise is too much, and I thought I heard that they make living there less expensive than other places. I could ask my friend, if you would like to know someone’s opinion who actually lives there.

yea that would be helpful, people who live in cedar or dogwood

its not a big deal. just sometimes wakes me up at like 7am… doesnt affect studying though

I live in Dogwood. Honestly, I don’t really hear anything and I’m facing the back of Dogwood (the side closest to the construction). You do hear some construction…but it doesn’t really interrupt sleeping if that is what you are asking…and it doesn’t interrupt studying either.

And no one else on my floor really talks about the construction noise bothering them either…we all just wish the construction could stop though so we could use the sidewalk stairs between Cedar and Dogwood though! :)

It isn’t too bad. Usually the construction occurs during the afternoon, so it might be hard to take a nap if your window’s open. Other than that, it doesn’t bother me.

i have some more questions. they might be random, but im just curious. do the bathroom doors in de neve slam when you close them, cuz my friends dorms are like that in terrace and vista. and whats the best building for de neve? are there pros and cons to each buildings?

De Neve IS a building.

sorry, i meant like acacia, birch, cedar, is there a preference for one over the other?

I don’t know anything about the others, but my sister absolutely LOVED De Neve. She was in a plaza, not a hall, so she and her 2 roommates had their own bathroom. And she loved being able to go downstairs and get food. I visit her all the time and, in fact, I actually miss De Neve’s close proximity towards everything else (now she lives in Hedrick Summit, which has a HUGE room, but it’s a bit of a trek to the center of campus).

The bathroom door doesn’t slam. The buildings are all similar, but Cedar’s elevator never works. :(

Yeah the bathroom door doesn’t slam. Cedar’s elevator doesn’t work…I think they are fixing that though.

Acacia and Birch…I think they have bigger lounges at least that is what it looks like from my lounge window. Also Acacia and Birch are connected to the Computer Lab, Dining Commons, Dykstra, De Neve Auditorium, etc.

Dogwood and Cedar are good…it’s closer to the sidewalk stairs that would get to Sproul very quickly. However, since it’s closed for construction this quarter…that part of being at Dogwood really sucks… I can’t wait till it re-opens :)

Evergreen and Fir…I hear they are pretty social, but I don’t really have first hand experience.

Probably the biggest con of De Neve is that the walls and floors are really thin. You will definitely hear your next door neighbors talking and playing music and stuff. And you will definitely hear feet stomping on your ceiling…and if you have noisy upstair neighbors, yeah that would not be good.

The benefits of De Neve are its close location to campus. Plazas are really nice…it’s really great having your own bathroom. There is a really good amount of closet space. I really like living in De Neve…I definitely thing the pros outweigh the cons.
