Construction of New Science and Engineering Buildings at the University of Alabama

^^^^

What am I doing wrong? I’m not seeing any pics

Mom,

Those are hyperlinks. Just click on them to see the pics. Don’t think it is possible to attach photos to this board, so I just provided links.

:) I did try the hyperlinks, but when I click on them, I’m not seeing pics.

edit…wait, now I’m getting the pics…don’t know why I wasn’t getting the pics before.

Any other pics? :)

wow, this hyperlink is really large, but it has some great pics and renderings

Actually, to get to the pics of the UA buildings, you have to go to the “government” section on the page linked above, and click on the “U of A Science and Engineering” section.

Wow…

I was just at Shelby and The Science and Engineering Complex yesterday. It is simply amazing in size and content. I took pics and will upload them to photobucket later and share. (but I’m not a great photographer.)

http://i171.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/u282/jlauer95/UA%20pics/UAanotheraerialviewofShelbyandcompl.jpg

This is an aerial pic from the above link of the mega Engineering and Science Complex.

For those who haven’t been on the Bama campus, this pic ALSO shows the northern end of campus where many of the super-suites honors and non-honors housing building are. Click on the link and you’ll see where these res halls are.

edit: I don’t know why the notes aren’t showing, so I’ll post them below.

This aerial shot shows the northern part of the UA campus where the honors housing is located (some non-honors housing is here, too).

The above construction area of Phase II is now complete. This is second phase of the UA mega Engineering and Science Complex. The pentagon shaped building is Phase I - called Shelby.

Far upper left area shows a glimpse of Lakeside Housing. Lakeside Dining is the white roofed building below the lake. Ridgecrest Housing is out of view on the left side of the lake.

The far upper center area of this pic shows the oval wide area of Riverside Housing (the pool, gazebos, and BBQs are in the center area of the oval.).

Wow, is there a Shelby building at every university in Alabama?

The exterior of the Shelby building at Auburn is very similar to the exterior of the Shelby II building at UA. The interiors are different, however.

I think I like the Shelby building at UAB the best since it’s a tall office building that blends well with its big city surroundings.

^^^

Senator Shelby has been VERY busy bringing lots of money to the various universities in the state.

Does anyone know where Phase III is going in?

It’s going in the area between the science library, Houser Hall and H.M. Comer Hall (MIB). East Engineering building is going down to make way.

ahh… Thanks…

I didn’t know a building was coming down…that makes sense :)

Do you know where Phase IV will go after that? (I think there is a Phase IV)

If you look at the Campus Master Plan, you will see that the MIB building, the big big uglyh one across from Paty will be torn down too! The plan shows a new building where MIB now stands, and another new building south of the upcoming Phase 3 building.
[Campus Master Plan Update](http://www.uafacilities.ua.edu/planning/pages/cmp-update.htm) click on each red link at this link for details about coming changes to the UA campus.

Wow…every tiny detail is on the Wayfarers guide. I’m glad that UA has been doing some really nice signage - hope they finish soon!

RE: the Campus Master Plan…are you looking at page 21? or another page?
There is interesting info on many of those pages.

So, are you saying that HM Comer is being torn down? or the building next to it?

Yeah, it looks like phase IV is going to go where MIB (HM Comer) is now. That’s going to have to go last though because there are many research and teaching facilities in there that aren’t so easily replaced.

I dunno about Atlanta68, but I was looking at a blown-up version of the map on page 21 of the Master Plan.

Does the campus tour now include going inside Shelby?

Does the campus tour now include going inside Shelby?

I have not seen any tour groups wandering around in here, so I guess no.
