Construction Science at Clemson-for Female Student?

Daughter interested in this program. The industry is seeing women come into the management roles but it’s never smooth. How is the program at Clemson? Va Tech has a similar program but we are OOS. I imagine space is limited for OOS. Any feedback from current or former Tigers appreciated

I can’t speak first hand about construction science, but DD is a MechE student there; it’s obviously a male dominated major as well. She’s had no issue with fellow students or professors; the majority of her profs are male and have been very supportive and have offered her class specific turoring jobs, recommendations, etc. Our friend’s daughter is a sophomore CS major and had an internship at one of the large developers/builders in the area this past summer and is enjoying her time so far. One of our friends is a VP for a large developer in the area; it sounds like there’s a call for female and POC interns to work on increasing diversity. There is a ton of development in the region, so there should be plenty of internship/co-op opportunities. Hopefully someone with a daughter in CS will respond. If not, she could contact the department to see if there would be a female student who would sit with her and discuss the program from the female perspective. They have a new outdoor lab and do a lot of charity work as well. Clemson overall has one of the top career centers in the country and a strong alumni network. Does she have an idea of where would she like to live after college? VATech would have more contacts in the VA/DC region; Clemson would have more in the NC/SC/GA area. Both schools would serve her well. Good luck!

Can’t speak to the female perspective, but have close friends with a sophomore son in the program. Capped major so very difficult to be accepted into. He was in-state, salutatorian of private college prep school, four sport athlete, tons of awards, etc. and had to do Summer Start to get in. Once in, he’s found it extremely challenging. Apparently internships are crucial and become a huge focus after freshman year.
