contact w/ the admission office?

Emory sends me booklets about the school and it said that one of the things they look for the most in the admission process is the student's contact with the admission office during their college search.

Does this mean simple contacts like phone calls and emails to ask them questions (not to suck up or anything, but to ask for information) or actually going to Emory to visit?

and I'm wondering how this affects the admission process?

for me personally,
i never visited emory or oxford and i applied for oxford and emory scholars. But i didnt get in to those programs. HOWEVER, i did get into oxford EA and emory -waitlisted RD then pulled from list.

i had an interview with an alumni and that was it.
demonstrated interest is also STRESSED with other institutions such as northwestern.
and i went to two college mtgs with the admin officer, 2 campus tours as well as an overnight visit. I also called the admin office whenever i had a ? and they took down my name each time to make a note of it in the system and well afterall all that work-- i was rejected rd.
to be honest, i dont really believe in the demonstrated interest. BUT, if you can swing by campus sometime, that will really help you decide if emory is for you.
