Contact with parents

i am applying for fafsa grants and i applied as homeless because i actually am. i do not have a set place to stay own a phone, have a job , no kids, not married, and i dont have any income comming in period. my parents do not claim me on their taxes. However to complete the application you must enter in your parents info and if you want to apply as a independent you cant have any contact with your parents in three years . i am 21 years old. the issue is my father paid about 3500 on my credit card last year for a student loan i had taken out four years ago. Can i still apply as a independent? will they find out my dad helped pay off my credit card one time ? We have the same first and last name as well. DOES THIS STOP ME FROM BEING ABLE TO APPLY AS AN INDEPENDENT.i want to apply as a independent. my mom and dad dont give me any money and ive only talked to my dad three times in the past three years. What are the repercussions or risks if i do apply as an independent if i am considered a dependent? however i do not know which one i am considered, thats why i made this post to find out.

wouldnt being homeless be a extenuating circumstance? . or the reason i left home and bounce back in forth between homes is because my step father physically abused me as i child and i no longer visit my mom becuase of that. i dont live with my dad either because his gf was verrbally abusive towards me as a child . and i hold a grudge against her.

Call FAFSA and talk with them. You don’t have to give your real name. They are very helpful. Call the 800 number. Be patient because you may have to hold a while but they will help you out.

I doubt couch surfing as a 21 year old makes you independent but do call the help line.

You could work for a few years and then go back to college at 24, when you would automatically be independent for FAFSA. Also is there a place you could take an EMT or CNA class? You could make good money and it would be good preparation for nursing school.

You could also work and take a few classes at CC as you can afford them.
