Contact with schools since applications sent in?

Does anyone know if the schools contact applicants after applications have been submitted and prior to March 10th decisions? It has been hard ceasing all contact after such a lengthy process. I am just wondering if they ever contact applicants, schools, recommendation providers for follow-up? Many thanks!!

Yes, many of my schools have contacted me.

Read nothing into this, one way or the other.

chill out. 5 days.

I got an email from an FA officer wanting a pdf format.

@mathman1201‌ Did they contact you about swimming?

Of course people have had all kinds of experiences with this - I’ll share what we went through with my child last year.

Applied to 4 schools (with next child will apply to more which is a topic already widely discussed on CC). Once the actual applications were submitted no, we really didn’t have much contact with the admissions people. We did have contact with coaches from the schools applied to because they were interested from that perspective.

My amateur take on things is that admissions people are so ridiculousy busy right now that you can’t take a lack of contact to mean anything. As long as you know your application was received and they aren’t waiting on anything from you, all you can do is wait.

So knowing that this is a very nervewracking time for you I will give you advice you can’t possibly follow - don’t worry.

BTW my child was accepted, though not at all 4. When I ask now “Can you imagine being at any other school?” the answer I get is, definitively, “No.” Child is thriving and absolutely loving it. Best of luck to you!

@GryffinHunter I’ve been contacted from AOs, coaches, and directors of the music program. However, I’m not going to read much into it, like skieurope said.

Thank you all for your great comments and they all seem to make sense. I know it is only 5 days from now but as you all know, we have spent so much time getting to know these schools and now to hear nothing feels a little unsettling. I am sure the admissions committees must be overwhelmed right now but I did wonder about some of the extracurricular contacts and recommendation providers and if there was further follow-up. I will try not to read into it as suggested. THANK YOU!!

If you are coming from a k-8 school that needs to place kids they are in touch with Directors of Admissions and vice versa and exchanging information from 1/15-4/15.

And it depends on the schools. TSAO-- and some other-- schools agree not to contact applicants between deadline day and admission day, except for rare circumstances ( something missing from file, letting an alum know their kid may be wait listed, etc.)-- but they don’t recruit during that period. Some schools make lots of contact. Don’t read anything into the silence. Waiting is just hard. Good luck.

This is what is called the ISL [http://www.isleague.org] and TSAO [http://www.tenschools.org] “quiet period” (referred to above: that time between application deadline and admit notifications) during which coaches etc. are not allowed to reach out to prospective students. So if you’re being contacted by a coach, etc. from one of the ISL or TSAO schools, that’s not exactly cool on their part and you might not want to announce that from the rooftops too loudly. If a school needs additional administrative info on the student, that’s different (financial aid info etc…)

^^^^^^

Ah, that makes sense as to why I have not been hearing from coaches/school departments at all recently. I’m assuming the same rule doesn’t apply to student tour guides? They have been in contact with me often.

Agree, I seriously doubt the rule applies to students reaching out to students (as long as the contact wasn’t prompted by faculty or admins). But another important thing to know: it’s ok for applicants to reach out to the schools…they can respond to an inquiry but they cannot initiate contact. That said, I agree with prior comments: that at this point in time it is best to stand back and let them do their job. Additional input this late in the game would likely be more an annoyance than anything else. The process is a long one…for everyone involved.
