Contacted by a coach..wierd?

<p>Has anyone been contacted by a coach about one of the activities you're interested in pursuing at Harvard (the stuff you wrote on your supp)? </p>

<p>I find that really odd. I'm not recruited and it was just asking if I was interested in playing while in college. Also asked about any experience I had. I didn't know that information was forwarded to coaches..</p>

<p>yea, what sport is it? I am interested in this thread. I play baseball, so obviously not underrepresented in the US, but who knows. Do you play your sport competitively (high schools and/or travel? Did you mention it in your application with detail? Did you get a recommendation or anything from coaches? Any family that played college sports? </p>

<p>Answering those q’s might help ppl on this forum probe further</p>

<p>It was for crew lightweight. I did a bit of rowing in highschool. Is it that rare?</p>

<p>Definitely. There’s a fairly large junior rowing team in my city, so I know a few rowers, but still not many. I thought about joining, but it conflicts with one of my big ECs.
I put down that I was 100% sure about rowing. Maybe it’ll help :).</p>

<p>I haven’t played the sport competitively in more than a year because of an injury so it was just a minor blurb on my activities and resume. -Shrug-</p>

<p>I’ve never rowed in HS, so I’m pretty sure they’re just gauging interest. It’s not gonna help you at all in admissions .</p>

<p>I know it won’t do anything to my app. Was just asking if it’s a normal occurrence. It’s the first time I’ve been contacted even though I put crew on all my apps.</p>

<p>Unless he’s a recruited athlete, it will not make a difference</p>

<p>Thats because a lot of freshmen walk-on to crew, so a lot of the crew team is made up of non-recruits, unlike in other sports.</p>
