contacted by fin aid office = good sign?

If we get contacted by the fin aid office within a couple of weeks of admissions decisions coming out does that basically mean we’ve been accepted? Or does the fin aid office just process everything MUCH later? I got a letter from swarthmore about this, just wondering because if I get in I want to visit the first week of april… Anyone got a letter like this that close to decisions and didn’t get in (especially at a smaller college)? Anyone get it and did get in? Thanks!

If they're contacting you about missing documents, it mostly just means they're missing documents. In many schools, the FA office is entirely separate from the admissions process.

I never actually applied for fin aid, that's the weird part. They just got confused I guess or I possibly checked the wrong box on the supplement. But I'm 99% sure that wasn't the case. Yeah, I don't really think it means anything but I'd REALLY like to believe that it does.

Hate to burse your bubbles, I know 3 out of 3 people contacted by finaid, and were later rejected by adcom. They are separate offices.

On the fin aid board a fin aid office from MIT explains that the admissions office lets them know who's likely and then they prepare pachages, so I'd say it's a good sign.

I read the same thing on a Harvard thread, zagat. I just received an e-mail from VaTech's FA office. I filled out a FAFSA, but they didn't say anything was missing, only that my application had been received and that I did not need to respond to the e-mail. They also stated when award notices would be mailed and that I should regularly check both my Virginia Tech e-mail account and my e-mail account I used for the FAFSA app. I'm hoping it's a good sign too. Can't imagine why they would go through all the trouble on each and every FAFSA app if they weren't at least considering accepting you. I'm waiting for a decision within the next 2 weeks also. BTW, I don't think it really makes a difference whether it's a small college or large. A lot of the colleges probably use the same system for processing acceptees. We can only hope...:)
