I applied RD to Bates, and as I wait for decisions to come, the golf coach at Bates emailed me out of the blue the other day. I’m not a good enough golfer to pursue athletic recruitment for any colleges, but I included my four years of high school varsity golf in my admission application, and I suppose he somehow caught wind of that.

I don’t want to get my hopes up, but is this a sign of my admission chances? Is it normal for faculty members to reach out to prospective students interested in their particular field of work? I would guess that Bates is close to, if not already finished with deliberating over this year’s applicants by now, and I see no reason for the coach to contact me at this point if I was going to get rejected.

Or maybe I’m just reading into this too much?

Decisions will be released on March 22nd (8am), so chances are they’ve made their minds up. I don’t want to get your hopes up, but it looks like a good indicator of admission. Good luck!

Hi - my son is on the Bates golf team. The coach is a lovely guy - the whole experience so far has been pretty laid back but he’s enjoyed it (plus of course, he gets to play golf!). It sounds really positive although of course, it could mean nothing. If you have questions about it, let me know.
