Hi everyone!
I just received an email from a woman who identified herself as my representative on the admissions committee at Harvard. She said she would love the opportunity to meet with me herself, in person, and asked me to come to the Admissions Office in Cambridge to speak with her, "and perhaps another staff member as well." I have already interviewed with an alumnus at my high school. The letter did address me by name.

Has anyone else received anything like this? Is it just because I live reasonably close to Boston that I'm being asked on a second interview? I didn't consider myself a particularly strong candidate, but I have a dim hope that this could mean I'm being seriously considered. Why did I receive this message? Let me know what you guys think!

No, if you lived farther away from Cambridge, your “second interview” might occur via skype or email.

Yes, I know of several students over the past several years who have had second interviews. Some of them have been accepted, the majority of them have ultimately been waitlisited – so, don’t get yourself hyped up. Yes, it’s a positive sign that the Admissions Committee wants more information on you, but as candidates must garner the majority of votes when presented to the full Committee – it is never a slam-dunk

Last year my son got contacted for a second interview by an admissions officer at Harvard. We do live in the Boston area. I am happy to report that my son is now a happy freshman at Harvard. Everybody on here told him not to get his hopes up. I would take it as a very good sign!

My son was also contacted for a second interview…and he is also a happy freshman at Harvard (wait listed, then accepted). I concur that it’s a very good sign.

Thanks everyone. I don’t really have my hopes up too high, but it’s nice to hear some encouraging stories and I’, grateful to have made it this far- I didn’t think I had a chance of standing out at all.
