Contactig your ol, yay/lame

I recently received an e-mail from my ol introducing himself and stuff. is it appropriate to reply back or kind of lame. i don't want to be rude but i'm not sure. thanks in advance!

I think when I was an OL, I got maybe 1 response. If you reply I’m sure they’ll appreciate it. Just don’t be lame in your e-mail ;)

If you have questions, write them back because they can be helpful in answering them.

If you have anything meaningful to ask or say, why not? Just don’t waste your time (and his) if you’re going to send a rambling introductory email for no reason in particular - most people I know don’t stay in touch with their OLs beyond orientation.

lol okay thank you guys

i ended up asking mine a few questions thats really been on my mind and he replied back very thoroughly and was helpful. definitely doesn’t hurt to get some feedback from a current student there.
