Contacting coaches this late in the game?

I'm wait listed at a school and I'm thinking about contacting one of the coaches for a sport that I want to get recruited for. I naively thought that my detailed information about my accomplishments in my application would be enough to get recruited. I didn't pursue the prospective athlete forms, emailing coaches, etc.

If I do choose to email a coach at this point, will he most likely have already recruited enough athletes for the team next year? I don't just want to say "hey coach, i was wait listed and was hoping you could get me off so I could play for your team.." Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

bump .

What sport?

I rather not mention it on here since its a fairly unique sport and I don’t want to be identified by admissions officers if theyre reading…pm me if you want though.

Definitely go for it! I know someone who reached out to a coach in mid-summer and got accepted for that fall.

I’m not exactly sure what to say, though. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m only contacting him now in order for him to get me off the wait list. Regardless of if I get off the WL with the coach’s help or not, I still plan on playing on the team next year.
