Contacting College After Submission

Is it to ones advantage to keep in contact with a college after submission of an application? It was suggested to me that I keep in touch with admissions and professors in the area of study I am interested in, but how do I go about that? Is it appropriate and what should you say if you do keep in touch with them? I'm sure it probably doesn't increase your chances of getting in...but does it add a little extra if you do?

well colleges like their students to be proactive. show them that you want to get in. but maybe just call in to check if you application is complete or if you have questions-real questions. I doubt they would like it if you called them constantly with questions you could find the answers to online.

What about contacting professors in areas of study you are interested in?

I would caution you to to be careful and not to be over the top. If you send a single e-mail to a professor in the department in which you hope to study to introduce yourself and remark on some of your accomplishments that is one thing... staying in touch, though, is a bit intrusive.
