Would anyone be able to shed some light on how I could go about getting in touch with the men's basketball coach. I sent him an e-mail earlier this month, and have yet to receive a reply. Also, over the past two days I have called his office number (and that of the Assistant Coach) at least five times, only to hear the answering machine on each occasion.

Also, does anyone know if the recruiting season has ended yet for Fall 07??

not really sure what u should do about coaches, but if u r RD, then it is not too late. ED is too late i think cos they normally submit forms round about now to admssions office in time for 1 november deadline

the ivies don't offer scholarships, so they don't have a set number of spots to recruit for and to "fill." the basketball team has announced as many as six recruits in recent years, with others walking on with or without the coach's foreknowledge. this year, at least two recruits have committed to coach scott, pending admission of course (see links). OP, have you filled out the recruiting form on the athletics site? if not, you should do that. good luck to you.

vrum, the coach probably already chose his recruits. He is only allowed a certain number of slots. most people contact him during late junior year. esp if you are ED, its kind of late.

as far as i know, only football is limited to a specific number of recruits (30), and that's by ivy league rule. basketball isn't limited in the same way, but practically speaking, admissions will only "assist" so many recruits through, based on the coach's assessment of their priority and their own academic qualifications. also, it's just not practical to carry 20+ varsity players, as it makes practicing unwieldy. still, because of the lack of any hard caps, and the high defection rate for ivy athletes (since they don't have scholarships contingent upon continued participation), the coach isn't going to turn away a recruit that could help the team for reason of limited "slots."

edit: found the following, from 2003, which refers to program-wide, not sport-specific recruit limits:

"Also, for the first time, the presidents set a limit on the number of athletic recruits that can be enrolled at an Ivy institution during any four-year period, in all 33 Ivy championship sports. This limit will vary for each school depending on which sports it offers, but it also is not expected to affect Princeton, since the University’s total number of recruited athletes is 'well below the new upper limit that has been established by the league,' Tilghman explained."

I realise it might be rather late, and that they could have all their recruits already, but I have never been one to not try, so I really just want to give myself a chance by contacting them and speaking to the coach. I guess I'll simply continue calling and praying that someone picks up the phone.

Thanks for your support guys. f.scottie I just filled out the recruitment form, but from past experience no one ever contacted me based on these recruitment forms, even from the places I would consider a safety.
