I've heard that making contact with colleges prior to application can increase your chances of admission. First of all, do you think that is true? If so, what kinds of contact do you think would be best (a tour & info session, asking for information online, getting an interview, etc.)? What is too much? Thanks!

Check the common data sets of the colleges you are interested in and see which ones consider or do not consider “level of interest” (which includes visiting, attending info sessions, etc). In most cases, such contact won’t affect your chances of admission however some notable colleges such as Carnegie Mellon do take that into account.
