Contacting Professors for Research

I'm trying to talk to 2 professors at my school for the Summer Undergraduate Research program, but professors at my school are notoriously bad (as w/ everywehre else i suspect) at returning emails. is it ok for me to phone them/go and meet them in person instead of emailing them, or will i come off as a pushy *******?

Calling them is fine, especially if your emails have not been returned; I wouldn't just show up at their lab though, as most PI's are very busy and have numerous appointments per day, so not only would you seem pushy and presumptious, but they might not even be in when you got to see them.
