I had an interview late last week at a graduate school. I think it went very well and they told me they would contact me very soon (which I took as a good sign, right?). The interview was Thursday/Friday, and I haven't heard anything back yet.

They are my number one choice. Also, my husband has been accepted there as well at a different program. They are his number one choice and he is waiting on me to get an offer before he accepts. His program actually wanted him to accept as soon as possible because they awarded him a competitive scholarship.

So my question is, even though its only a few days after the interview, should I contact the academic coordinator and ask about my status? I mean it is so close to April 15th already, plus the stuff I mentioned about my husband.

It shouldn’t hurt to call and ask, especially given the date, the fact that they are your number one choice, and the stuff about your husband. Best of luck! :)

I have been waiting for more than two weeks since the program coordinator told me she would get back to me “very soon”. God knows how these people interpret the meaning of “soon”.

The term ‘very soon’ meant different things to different people through my admissions process. For Vanderbilt, very soon, meant the following day at 8:00am (in one time zone east of me) for Duke, very soon, meant three weeks.

Yeah i would call. You need to know and dont want to be strung along…plus it creates anxiety…as if the process of applying wasn’t troubling enough. You and your hubby have some very big decisions to make.

if they tell you “very soon” and you have not heard back after more then 1 week, it is very likely that you are rejected or on the waiting list. Unless the school told you that they need to meet with the deans of the graduate school and not just the department, in that case, it will take about 3 weeks.

also, i have tried emailing some programs and have gotten no response–that is not a good sign:( so yeah, calling is better…
