So I'm currently in Calc 2, the most failed class at my university. Problem is my teacher is really bad. He talks about too much irrelevant theory that ends up confusing everyone and doesn't even appear on the test! He doesn't do enough practical examples that actually appear on our exams. Anywho, I have two other friends in the class and after every class we always talk about how confused we are. I watched videos online and basically taught myself the math (I couldn't understand anything he taught) and ended up getting an 87% on my first exam.

I have a test next week and it hasn't gotten any better. I'm still confused after every class. Today, I watched two hours of math videos and understood everything that he tried to teach us in the last two weeks. I don't see the point in going to lecture, if all I'm going to do is end up confused. I have class two times a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. I feel like it'd be a better use of time if I just watched videos online to follow what is being taught in class. I know skipping class is a huge college no-no but I feel as though I'm wasting my time. Opinions?

I skipped class all the time and graduated with a 4.0. There are no rules about whether or not you have to go to class (unless, of course, the professor has an attendance policy). You tried it, and you find that you don’t need it.

The only downside is if he makes some sort of announcement about exams, homework, due dates, or anything administrative about the class, or if he diverges from his syllabus (in terms of what topics he covers and such). It doesn’t sound like his lectures are very relevant to what is on the tests, so there shouldn’t be an issue there. If you want to keep going to class, you could watch the videos ahead of time to make sense of what he’s teaching.

Congrats! You’ve discovered the secret!
I’m not sure what’s it like at your university, but at mine people skip class all the time, especially if attendance is not recorded via clickers and the professor doesn’t give impromptu quizzes and the like. Youtube contains a massive amount of educational videos - now I can even find videos on topics covered in my upper division classes.

Apparently you’re not smart enough at this point to understand slightly complicated math.

However, it’s possible you can get smarter by taking fish oil everyday. The average American does not get enough DHA in the diet so you’ll have to get DHA from fish oil supplements.
