Contemporary Music in an Arts Supplement

I know there have already been so many posts about this but I still can't seem to find something that answers my question.

I wanted to know that if I've toured around the country and performed alot but am inclined to a more contemporary form of music (acoustic, rock, progressive) and not classical, would the admissions committee still consider it as a talent/EC? I mean should I send in my recordings?

Also, should I sent my guitar pieces separately from my vocal pieces? I mean it would just be acappela then. But would it make a difference if I play both instruments together or send in recordings of myself with a band?

I've put four years into my music but since I'm self taught (vocals and guitar) I don't really have anybody to write me a recommendation either. So my rhird question is how important would that be?

Thanks in advance for answering my question! :)

Have you toured as a professional? Do you derive income from this? Are you under contract? Do you have reviews, or can you obtain recommendation(s) from other performing professionals?

Contingent on your answers, a supp may well be worth sending. I’ve written many of the threads pertaining to music supps and if you extrapolate, you are potentially one of the few where a supp may indeed be worth sending, contingent on the schools you’re considering.

The genre itself is unimportant. It’s the level of accomplishment, and a valid assesment of your skill sets and talents in comparison to the applicant pool.

I’m unsigned but in Pakistan, a record label isn’t very important.
I do derive income from it.
And yes I can get recommendations from other performing professionals.

Also, Im still confused as to the format of the CD. Does it need to be just vocal and then guitar or can it be a band performance too? Can I put in a video of a live perfomance I’ve given?

Most of the schools that will take artistic supplements want them in a very specific format, either DVD, or CD. As for the repertoire and length, some will be specific, some nebulous. Check each website for specifics, there is no general rule. It will be in your best interest to contact the schools you are considering and speak directly with an admissions counselor familiar with the requirements for a music supplement if the info is not clear. There may well be different parameters for each.

I’ll check the websites. Thanks for helping me out!
