Thanks @bridgenail and it was a very nice gift heading into the holiday season! Memphis is my first choice for her, I really like the program and faculty. While its not her first choice, its great to know she’s going “somewhere”! More auditions to come and look forward to our February trip south. She’ll walk on campus and into her audition as an accepted student!
Where did your D end up?
Fingers crossed, D said her Boston Berklee audition went well. The logistics ran very smoothly, they projected each applicant’s name on a board when they were ready to be called, they sat in a specific numbered chair and were escorted to a private practice room.
She said the students, interviewer and evaluator were very warm, laid back and welcoming. She felt she did well with the theory, ear training, and sight singing exercises and commented that the evaluator was dancing during her audition piece. Her interviewer suggested she may want to consider Vocal Performance as a major instead of Professional Music and asked her questions about her goals and course work / accomplishments at her Performing Arts school.
Taking it with a grain of salt, but her performance evaluator said she’d admit her based on her vocals, assuming the interview (with a different person) went well. Again, fingers crossed!
Wonderful! More to come I am sure.
@PopPrincessPop Glad it went so well! Sounds promising! My son is in his first semester at Berklee and loves it! Good luck!
Second academic acceptance came in last night from St. Rose along with a 1/3 academic scholarship! Her audition is scheduled for late January.
Big acceptance came in today…she got into Berklee!!!
Super fast turnaround in hearing, her audition was just this past weekend!
The good news comes with challenges though, she didn’t get a scholarship offer We knew that would be a challenge going in so barring a miracle its going to be tough to send her.
Not letting that temper the enthusiasm, we’ll celebrate tonight and this weekend, getting into Berklee is a monumental accomplishment. She said the music department at school cheered for her when she announced the news!
Congrats! Check that off her list. Did the letter say she didn’t get a scholarship or did it just include one?
@PopPrincessPop Congrats!!! Isn’t that early acceptance great??!! Most who have auditioned won’t find out until January 30. Scholarship letter comes separately from acceptance letter. I would find it odd for her to get early acceptance without $$. Did you get something saying she didn’t get a scholarship?
My son got his Berklee decision today, too. Got an email directing him to log onto his Berklee application account; both the decision letter and the (merit) scholarship letter were there.
Hi everyone, yes the scholarship letter was also included with the acceptance on the portal and it explicitly said she was not awarded a scholarship at this time!
Took her out to dinner tonight to celebrate anyway, Berklee acceptance is quite an accomplishment! Again not ruling it out but was very real with her that its unlikely we can afford it.
That being said, its lit a fire under her butt to even more aggressively apply for outside scholarship money. She’s got until May to make a run at it.
Meanwhile the process continues for other schools…
Congratulations to your son @ScreenName48105 ! Its an exciting time! What is your son’s instrument?
Congrats @ScreenName48105 ! @PopPrincessPop yes quite an accomplishment! Something to celebrate!!! They must be doing a little different this year. Maybe at this time means later? Acceptance this past year to Berklee was 29% with a record of 9000 applicants we were told at parent orientation. Congrats to you both and your children and good luck on the rest of your journey.
One last thought…there is also a composition/song writing scholarship offered at Berklee if your children have written any original music. Check into it if you haven’t already. I think deadline last year was sometime in the middle of January.
Outside scholarship money is great but usually just for one year and a perk rather than a make or break proposition for schools as expensive as these. The real money is in academic scholarships, and academic/music stacking or getting the golden ticket big money offers from less academic programs like Berklee. As others have said, maybe there will be more money coming later. It could be worth a call to see if there is that possibility or if it’s a what you see now is what you get proposition. That way you know what you’re working with.
And congratulations on a strong start!
Thanks @saintfan - we’ll work every angle to see what can be done. Berklee though very high on her list is not the only school she’s excited about.
Thrilled to be rolling with 3 options already before Christmas! More to come awaiting a U Arts decision, and auditions at Loyola and Memphis. The latter have strong academic / music stacking possibilities and were partially selected for that reason.
One more acceptance before Christmas! D got into University of the Arts in Philly and offered a a 1/3 merit scholarship!
Still challenging but definitely a BIG help! More options which is always good and nice to get acceptances to her top 2 schools!
Will be celebrating this holiday, getting ready for the next round of auditions and dedicating time to the outside scholarship search!
Congrats! And a merit scholarship … Makes her feel very wanted there I am sure
Haven’t posted an update in a while, we’ve been on the road auditioning this month and last. We went to Saint Rose at the end of January and took a road trip south for auditions at Loyola NO (she got her academic acceptance and 1/4 Academic merit offer right after New Years) and Memphis earlier this month.
Good trip and D got to look at those cities as well as take a closer look at the programs. The auditions went well and just got feedback this week that she’s been accepted to Saint Rose’s Music Industry program and recommended for a merit scholarship amount TBD until next month. She was also accepted to the University of Memphis Commercial Music Performance program, fingers crossed for scholarship money both academic and talent to be announced next month as well. Super proud of her, she’s been grinding pretty hard and nice to get a couple more program acceptances in the bag!
She’s got her New School audition next week and awaiting academic acceptance to UMass Lowell to schedule an audition. Looks like she may have to go back out to CU-Denver if she passes her pre-screen. That’ll be her last one and will be approaching decision time.
So far Saint Rose has offered the most academic money and a promise of more talent-based scholarship so it jumps to the front of the line in affordability. She’s scheduled time later next month to visit campus again and sit in on a few classes.
Fingers crossed for Loyola, she really likes it there and its her top realistic choice for affordability. If we’d won Power-Ball she’d be off to Berklee and although it was great to get the merit offer from U Arts its still not enough! But she’s already gotten academic money from Loyola so if they offer a decent amount for talent we might be able to make that one work. They verbally told her she was in at the audition but I’ll believe it when she gets it in writing!
Congratulations! Note that St Rose has recently closed down a number of majors and is letting go both untenured and tenured faculty - none in the music division as far as I know - this could have potential ramifications down the road. Their music facility is absolutely gorgeous, though, and my understanding is that it’s an area of focus for the school.
