I am taking this math class and I dont know why I am taking it because it is not for prerequisite or anything. ANyway, it is hard and i just took my first test today. I think I either failed it or I'd be lucky to get a C. Should I drop this class or just take it and try to get a C?

Drop it. I assume you're taking it to prove to yourself you can do it. It's going to bite you in the ass GPA-wise if you end up with a low grade. If you really want to learn the material and whatnot, just audit the class--continue going to lecture but drop it from your schedule.

do you need the math class? Is this math class the minimum requirement for the math sequence, like College Algebra or Statistics, or is it just an upper level math like Calculus? If it the minimum math requirement, you should keep it, if not, then you can choose to drop it if you cant handle it.

like the beastie boys say, DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooP

no its third year calc
i need it for some uc's but not for UCLA and UCB

my plan is to take it until i am pretty sure that i wont be able to pass the class. the deadline to dro with a W is may 9th and decisions will be posted on april 30th. What do you guys think of this decision?

i'm taking calc 3 now, and supposedly it starts off relatively easy and gets harder as the semester goes on.

converted to US currency that's worth about $0.39

Man i'm struggling with single-var calc, i can't imagine the third class. this stuff is kicking my ass.

3rd year calculus? multivariable? differential eqn? part. diff eqn?

i suck at physics and there are so much phsyics in it!! i thought i got everything down already and was prepared for the test. But it was the other way around. This teacher is known for its hardcore test. I got owned..... 39 cents? >.>

yea its multivariable...with vector functions and stuff

what u guys think of my plan tho. withdrawing after knowing htat i just wont be able to make it anymore. Either way, i would get the same W because if i were to drop now, i still would get the W.

If it's really as hard as you say, it's likely the majority of the class is struggling equally or worse. Find out if your teacher curves at the end of the class.

what about taking it as Pass/No Pass or Credit/No Credit??

You already applied right? I'd say take the W. After application, the only hurdle you have is the minimum 3.0 gpa stipulation. Ws are not counted. But if you fail Calc 3, then your gpa could fall below 3.0 and your application could be rescinded. If you keep things the way they are, you can only lose, not gain.

will i get rescinded if i dropped the class with a W?

not unless it is a major requirement, or you need it to reach 60 units.

no i have MORE than enough units. My reason for taking this class was solely for preparation once i transfer. UCSD and UCI requires this class and linear algebra. UCB and UCLA don't require it. Anyway, I have decided to take it and decide to drop later after April 30th. I just don't want to get F or D.

Well, you did put it down as a class in progress right? So they might look at you with an jaundiced eye. But one thing I'm certain of is that a D or an F would be much more damaging than a W. Just make sure that you are able to talk to a Berkeley rep, a UCLA rep or an well informed counceiler( most are terrible!!) before making any decisions.

should i talk to them now or after april 30th?

Im in the exact same situation. I am in cal 2 and i am contemplating to drop it, but if i drop it, i will most likely get rejected from UC berk because it is required for econ majors. However, to other private schools that i applied to, it is not required. So i dunno what i am going to do. I would prefer going private than going to UC berk, but uc berk is always good to have in hand as an option. I think i got an F on the first quiz (it was only 1 question and i got it wrong, but it was worth a lot of pts i think) and an A on the second.

i might drop the class today, before i get a W on my transcript. The last day to drop without a W is today :(

i just e-mailed UCLA regrading this matter and telling them about my situation and also asking suggestion on what i should do.
