Im a junior right now and am currently taking calc ab. I got a C last semester. I understand the majority subject, but i just was veryvlazy in my studying. This semester im aiming for a low B if possible. Do you think it be the right choice to move on to calc bc or should i take statistics(ap)??? I plan to go into Computer or Mechanical engineering in college. Would it be safer to take the second calc class in college or now?
That’s really impossible to say, but it seems like if you are getting Cs in calculus and your stretch goal is a low B, then you have nothing to worry about because you won’t score well enough on the AP test to get out of taking it again in college. Also, it’s generally not possible to say just how well your high school’s AP curriculum will do at preparing you for college. Some high school students take BC and start college in calculus 3 and do just fine. Some take that route and then struggle mightily since high school AP programs vary so greatly in quality.
If it were me, I’d take BC. It’s largely a repeat of AB plus a little new information. You can solidify your calculus chops. Taking statistics won’t do much positive for you. Whether or not you parlay that into testing out of any Calculus or not is really secondary to building your foundation for engineering. It’s far easier to do that in HS than once in college where every class is pulling at your pant leg for attention. Good luck and don’t slack your second time around.
