S asked me to post this. In formal essays, he does not use contractions. He wrote his college essay the same way and it sounded too formal. His AP English teacher suggested using contractions-- I’m, I’ve, etc. It sounds much more natural now. How do others feel about using contractions in the college essay?
<p>i think it's fine. Plus, it helps reduce the word count of the essay. Contractions are perfectly acceptable, and like you said, they do make the essay flow nicely.</p>
