contractions?

I just had my main Common App essay edited by my AP Lit teacher. The only complaint she had about it was that I did not spell out my contractions.

While I normally spell out all my contractions in a formal essay, my commonapp essay is more of an anecdote and is somewhat informal and humorous. My teacher said it doesn't matter and that I should still spell them out. It feels awkward to me (and ups my word count, which is already high enough), but I am inclined to trust her advice.

Thoughts? Y/N?

Thanks.

Personally, I think it's fine to have contractions. It give your essay a more personal feel and the point of the personal essay is for the colleges to know what your "voice" is.

Contractions should be ok as long as you don't over use them(like having 30 contractions in an essay).
