We found this very frustrating also.
(most) Schools REQUIRE you to have an SAT or ACT score. No schools require you to TAKE both tests.
But then some schools REQUIRE you to “provide ALL scores”.
Unless it clearly stated otherwise, we interpreted it to mean that whichever score you were having OFFICIALLY sent, to meet the testing requirement(s), you send ALL sittings of THAT test.
Scores from the OTHER test(s), we self-reported.
Colleges KNOW that the CommonApp has the self-reporting section. You would think that they could be clearer with regard to which scores (above and beyond the basic, required, officially-reported) are OK to self-report. But app after app, my kids had to go to the school’s admission page, read and re-read the requirements, and still, it was rarely clear if it was OK to self-report those OTHER scores and, most importantly, whether those self-reported “extra” scores would be reviewed/considered. How hard is it to just spell it out?
