Contrasting various potential majors (both Business majors and related majors)

Hello. I will be a High School Senior in the fall and I've been starting to think about college majors. Based on what I am currently interested in, here is what I have thought up of based on research:

1) Accounting
2) Finance
3) Economics -> Master's in Economics (Only at Northeastern)
4) Math + Econ Double Major (most likely applied math, but whatever math works)
5) Actuarial Science (Only at UConn, I would get to pay reduced tuition because of the New England Regional Option)

Currently, my only goal for college is to be able to get a stable entry-level job and possibly go to Business School if I feel like it might be worth it. Of course, as I have noticed in High School, my goals and interests might increase as I go through college.

I've heard that the Job Market is not exactly doing so well at this point, so I guess that is the base of my curiosity. What could I do with these majors? Is any one of them better for getting a job then the others? How about internship opportunities? Would I be disadvantaging myself if I picked one of these majors over the other (in terms of internship opportunities, skills gained, job opportunities, and related things)? I want to be able to pull my own weight, so what I don't want is to graduate from college with tons of debt and absolutely no way of paying it off.

As for why I picked the major choices, I have interest in math so that is why I have chosen the Math + Econ double major and actuarial science. The idea of working in the business appeals to me, more than say science, and so I have thought Accouting and Finance would be good. I will be studying economics over the summer so that is what has led me to that.

Ultimately, I rather uneducated in prospective careers, but I know that economics and business suits me more than a lot of other things out there.

Thanks for reading this, and I hope this isn't stupid question.

P.S. People have told me that my interest in French is good for Business, so I don't know if that will help people with giving me advice or not. If there's anything that people need me to say in order to give proper advice, please let me know.

If all you want is an entry level job with room for advancement, do finance/accounting and work at the local bank.

Since you like math, then Econ/Math and actuarial science makes sense. Also, a math/econ major can find their way into an actuarial science career. You can have a business career with both of those majors. Also, math/econ can get you into business analytics.

@Ultimablade‌ : Ah a job at bank, that’s pretty good. I definitely don’t think I would mind that (except for the bank robberies, but if I choose a safe town that should be no problem then). I’ll look into that.

@geo1113‌ : Oh, is that so? I guess I wild like to start with something that I am more comfortable with and work from there. Perhaps a math + Econ double major/actuarial science major at a bank? I will admit, that does not sound too bad, pretty good if I do say so myself.

Thanks to you both. I appreciate the feedback. This has definitely helped me start thinking about future possibilities.

Actuarial science will get you into the insurance business, either with a company or a consulting group.

All of the options you mentioned are good. I think the econ/math (I would go toward statistics) is greater than the Econ to MS in econ. Some may have other thoughts.
