Converting weighted GPA to unweighted

I'm kind of unsure how this works. I've got a weighted GPA of 4.73 or so at the moment... what would this be unweighted?

Anything above 4.0 is probably a weighted GPA, anything above 4.5 is definitely a weighted GPA. The easiest way to break it down into an unweighted GPA is to use a 4 point scale:

A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0

Add up all of the grades then divide by the number of classes you have taken. No extra points for honors or AP classes.

Some high schools (and colleges) do use a system that gives or takes away points for pluses (+) and minuses (-). The 4 point system is most typical.

I wouldn't worry too much about this, however --- each college has a different system for looking at your grades. Some will just take whatever your reported GPA is on your transcript, some will recompute using their own methods (i.e., dropping non core classes or not weighting honors and APs). A good question to ask admissions when you visit or contact them is: Will you use my GPA as reported on my transcript or recompute it?
