Convince an OOS to go to Rutgers.

Here’s your chance! Brag about your school!

Wow. What a chance.

Pass. Do your own research. Not as if this forum is devoid of info.

I have looked into Rutgers quite a bit, actually. I stalk this forum as well as the Rutgers Reddit frequently.

I was mostly aiming my question towards current Rutgers students who have by now gotten a feel for what Rutgers is like. To the best of my ability, it appears that many students on this forum are prospective applicants. I simply wish to gain insight from those who are attending / have attended Rutgers so I can get to know the school better. I have not visited campus yet, which is another reason I wish to seek opinions on the atmosphere there. From the virtual tours I have seen of Rutgers, the campus seems alright, though I seek first-person verification. I love the idea of the bus system, though many students seem to dislike it (for its inefficiency and time-consuming nature, I suppose).

I am sorry if I have offended you.

My sarcastic tone was in response to your “here is your chance to convince me”’ remark. Not offended in the least!

Amused, yes.

How can anyone convince you of the virtues of a university without knowing you, knowing your needs and goals, etc. Or your home state and its colleges? Or other schools to which you have been admitted?

If you had asked - “Students attending Rutgers, tell me what you love about the school,” I would have scrolled on by. Good question.

Perhaps your “here is your chance”’ is just a different way of saying the same thing.

Best of luck.

My input is woefully out of date as I attended Rutgers back in the 80s. At the time, the honors program was new but I found it attractive and I got a scholarship so I went. It was not my first choice but it turned out to be the best choice. I got a great education and made lifelong friendships. Professors were accessible, even in large lecture classes, if you took the time to visit office hours. The town of New Brunswick was a bit seedy at the time and it’s been completely transformed. You can catch the train to Manhattan and arrive in a bit more than an hour. It’s also not that far to the beach. Great local music scene.

The administration was a bit cumbersome at the time (the “RU Screw”) and I imagine that hasn’t changed much. It is a large state university.

I was recently talking to one of my college friends and asked him what his other options were. He had been admitted to Columbia. I was accepted to Amherst. Neither of us regrets our choice. We are both successful professionals. I was admitted to top grad schools (JHU, Cornell, UC Berkeley)

That said, if I were you and had in-state options that were more affordable, I’d pass on Rutgers. OOS, I’d go if they offered me merit money or the equivalent of in-state tuition.
