**Convince me (Berkeley vs. UCLA)!!!!!!!

mikei great post. i will make one last trip up there. and then make my choice after visiting UCLA for the billionth time.

Jane,

Make sure you go when there are students there!!!

I had been to Berkeley like 4 times before but never when there were students/when there wasn’t a vacation. It makes a really big difference!

Oh yeah, and if you’re not into the grungy Telegraph kinda stuff then don’t go to Telegraph! It’s as simple as that! Only that one part (a few blocks south of UC Berkeley) of Berkeley is all grungy. ahaha But if that’s your thing, then go for it!

kk thnx for the tip mikei ;)

Oh yeah, and go to Chez Pannisse cafe if you haven’t!! It was founded by a famous Berkeley Alumn (Alice Waters) and the food/food culture is amazing. The menu is different everyday and fluctuates according to what are the freshest/best ingredients of the day (hand chosen by Alice Waters and her chefs from local sources.)

EDIT: I sound like a Berkeley fanboy now. ahah I really love that school now…

@ jane: I think we should just go to Berkeley as spring admits. I came to this conclusion as I contemplated my activity on College Confidential.

I thought to myself, “hmmm if I go to Berkeley in the spring, that means I’ll be stuck on here for another 6-7 months waiting around anxiously for UCB to start”

then I thought about UCLA, “hmmm if I go to UCLA in the fall, I won’t have the time to help out all the kids applying in the fall.”

I pondered. “lol it would be fun to keep up on here for a while longer!”

and so it was done. UCB class of 2012! haha jk jk. I need another week to think :(.

@Emil that might be a problem, if I were you I would take a sharpie and change it to

University of ‘Cal’ ifornia Berkeley

AHHH a brilliant solution! Sharpie, yes! Of course haha. Synthesizing my 2 favorite schools into one cell phone case. precisely what I was looking for. haha jk.

ugh moki, you’re lucky you’re in for fall haha. Congrats!

Nicky are you F-ing crazy???

you are joking right!!!

CC should not be taken into consideration hahahahaha

if i did take the Spring Admit i would have 15,000 posts “helping” kids out.
hahahahaha ■■■■

now i am seriously considering UCLA!
i need another two weeks i think…i have to plan out my trip to Cal.

@ jane: haha of course I was kidding. However, I don’t actually see myself leaving this site for good. I love it lol. You guys are awesome. I love how if you took this into consideration, you would bolt to UCLA to get away haha. While, in contrast, I have the opposite reaction.

Let me know what you think of Cal! Try to go on a Wednesday…or a school day in general.

for shiz thnx for the tip, do they sell Berkeley goggles on campus?

oh god I dont know what to do :frowning: I am actually loosing sleep over this decision! Cal is ranked 2nd in the nation for my major. But I love UCLA to pieces. ohh stanford accept me already so I can have my compromise of beauty and brains.

SF- Go to Yale. Fasheezy.

for SFwarrior25

http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/6457/sfwarrior25.jpg

@ jane: WHOOOOOAH! lmao. Nice image! I laughed.

see how cool ur mommy is?

Do know that the city of LA ranks top 3 in the nation for worst air quality in 3 categories
ozone pollution
short term particle air pollution
long term particle air pollution

i also know of a person who goes to ucsc right now and hes from la, he told me everyone he knew that moved over to LA would get some form of asthma within 1 to 2 years.

BAY area= lake tahoe, SF, somewhat nice beaches if u find the right ones, greener place(as in its not a freaking microwave oven)

iono just putting it out there

LOL @ janethedoe

hahahah!!

@Emil Thanks dude, I was really worried that I wouldnt get in cuz im missing one prereq and my gpa is as good as I wanted it to be. Gratz to everyone who made it  We Did it!!!

Dunno if you guys find this interesting or not but I was even more suprised when i got into ucla cuz I had done the assist.org prereqs for UCB only and I was missing like 4 prereqs for ucla :D

After reading numerous comments and suggestions on this topic, I feel obligated to push for Cal again.

Reasons I will attend Cal:

Cal, it stands for California. Cal is more than just a school it is the symbol of the California Master Plan, it is an engaging and exciting place wherein both students and scholars invent amazing hopes and ideas.

Departments. Let’s be realistic here, Cal has some of the best graduate departments for numerous majors in the world including chemistry and economics, which are likely to slightly rub off on their younger undergraduate counterparts.

Outreach. If I had a nickel for every time people told me that UCLA had more prestige than Cal, well I would have a nickel. Cal is recognized for a multiple reasons, including “a tradition for untraditional excellence” in which students make history. Don’t believe me, think of the free speech movement.
Here is a great speech: [YouTube - Mario Savio: Sproul Hall Steps, December 2, 1964](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcx9BJRadfw)

Lastly, Cal is a vessel on which both students and scholars travel, but the capacity of this instrument is only limited by you. It truly is a magical place where anything can happen. You will be on the brink of discovery every single day while academically challenged every step of the way.

Oh, if it helps. I choose Cal over UCLA despite about 15 calls from my Uncles and Grandma to live on the UCLA tradition.

Oh also important: [YouTube - You See Berkeley - Extended Web Version](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6BP09VHK58)

And who doesn’t love the Cal fight song?

Go Bears!

P.S. UCLA is still cool, no hard feelings.

Okay, I’m going to Cal by default because I didn’t even apply to LA; it didn’t offer my major. UCLA is amazing. Everything is so nice out there and the students there are more laid-back than the students here at Cal. Food is better at UCLA. I think if you care more about your major vintij, you should go to Cal. But if you wanna have a little more well rounded undergrad experience, UCLA sounds like the better option, IMO.
