Convince me to come to Dartmouth...

So it's down to the wire.

I'm deciding between Emory, Dartmouth, and UVa.

I want to study business/econ (potentially to work on wall street or something similar).

Why should I go to Dartmouth over the other two schools? I'm stuck guys..convince me!

Lucky you. I can't speak about which is better in terms of what you want to study, but I visited Dartmouth last week and the place completely wowed me... the people and the environment were so friendly/laid-back, and everyone seemed happy to be there ... I was sold in 15 minutes. Didnt get that vibe anywhere else, so for me, thered be no decision. But thats just me

The three schools actually have very interestingly different atmospheres, I think.
BUt as far as Econ goes, as far as your future at Wall St., go to D.

You either love the school or you don't. If you don't love it, save your space for someone on the waitlist who probably does.

You shouldn't, I think UVA and Emory>>>>>>Dartmouth, Dartmouth is too small, in a town with pot smoking students, you don't want that kind of influence on you. On the other hand Emory can offer you a much better educational experience :D It's warmer at Emory too, no snow!!! And at Dartmouth you have to work so much harder, because of that D-plan, which gives you tests and assignments every few weeks.
Seriously, UVa and Emory all the way! especially for business and econ!
Don't go to Dartmouth, decline your admission now! :D

if you are into Wall Street and stuff, definitely Dartmouth. The school is reputed to be one of the feeder schools for investment bankings, as evidenced by its top 10 ranking in the wall street journal. By the way, Dartmouth alumnus(i forgot his name), is currently CEO of Goldman Sachs. So definitely, Dartmouth

thanks guys, how many people think Newbyreborn is a Waitlist candidate? ;)

haha nice one, but i thought new was admitted, New probably didnt have a good time at Dimensions or smth, but still every has their own perspective. I respect his, but frankly Dartmouth is the best choice you have in terms of banking-that I can guaranteed you

Flipperbw - I think the choice is really Dartmouth or U Va. I don't think Emory is even in the same ballpark. One thing that makes Dartmouth stand out among even it's peers is the way Dartmouth makes everything accessible for its students, which is part of its focus on the undergraduate. Email (blitz) is very big, and you're always getting emails about career services and internships and activities and funding for summer internships, etc.... On the other hand Emory can be know for making things pretty difficult for its students. The method of course selection with points is bizarre and I know more than one student there who has been very burned by the process, and wound up taking classes they were not happy with, including some who needed classes in order to then apply to their business program. It's not a place where they make things easy for you like they do at Dartmouth. Dartmouth or U Va is a tougher choice. Academically Dartmouth is better, but colder and smaller. Maybe you'd like warmer, bigger. Dartmouth is probably more diverse, since 75% of people at U Va are from Virginia. U Va is less expensive but not by that much. I think Dartmouth is a more nurturing atmosphere, and has an incredible network when it comes to getting jobs out of school. D also had this choice and didn't really think about it much. She would have had to have hated Dartmouth at Dimensions to have gone to U Va instead, she just thought Dartmouth had a much better reputation and was so much better academically. But I know people who have gone the other way because they wanted warmer and more fun.

sadly i am not waitlisted or accepted :(, I envy you, I was rejected last year :(. But i applied for transfer again and I am currently waiting for my decision

huh, i just cannot understand you new, you are transferring to dartmouth and then you are discouraging flipper to join. I dont get it

He was just joking- trying to free up transfer spots lol.

Flipper, I know Emory well (lived there for a summer and brother went there for a year) and UVA well (visited twice - best friend went). Dartmouth blows them away in terms of reputation on wall street, entry into top MBAs, and in my opinion the quality of life/ friendliness of the students is better too. Dartmouth is intimate, friendly, and one of the best college experiences in the country.

Don't even deliberate...

dartmouth has a ridiculous mba/student ratio, its either number one or number 2 in the country

you're all awesome. thanks for the lengthy response, Dartmom.

newby, sorry about the rejection. good luck with the transfer though!

i'll post within the week about my decision (currently leaning towards d-mouth)!

Ivy prestige is pretty impressive, but be careful Flipperbw. The atmospheres/enviorments/locations of the schools are different, thus providing different advantages/disadvantages. Dartmouth has an amazing MBA program, but no undergrad program alone will open too many doors, even an IVY! Emory and UVA are no second rate schools, and you are being deceived if you believe they won't offer you comparable opportunities during college and between graduation and your MBA.

choose Dartmouth because its in the Ivy League.

Dont choose Dartmouth because it's an ivy; choose it because it's the best school you are deciding between and because it will give you the best overall college experience. Its a no-brainer

Seriously, if you have to ask this question, DON'T GO TO DARTMOUTH. Save the spot for someone who is SURE they'd love to go to Dartmouth.

I have a few friends with far superior stats to mine who were waitlisted, while I was admitted. I sympathize with them, and wishy-washy people nauseate me.

For what you're looking for, Dartmouth is MUCH, MUCH better than UVA or Emory. Actually, I would say Dartmouth would be better in every area in case you changed your mind, but especially in Econ, pursuit of wall st jobs, MBA.

Look at placement into grad schools - Dartmouth tops both by a significant margin. Then add that Dartmouth is a better college experience and its a no brainer.
