I put this in the Berkeley Forum too. Basically I was accepted into Mech engineering for Berkeley, CMU, and was waitlisted at Cornell. I live in Cal. Does anybody care to convince me why I should go to CMU as opposed to Berkeley.

nope....goto berkeley.....

Well personally I think your college years are the most important of your life. That said, I would much rather be at CMU with its 5k ugrad population and the neighboring U.pitt campus with its social settings (Pittsburgh rules!) than at Berkeley which is huge. Berkeley is also too focused on its grad.

Also, we have higher avg salaries than Berkeley and we have better connections with prestigious East coast firms rather than having to live in CA.

To summarize: If you don't care about the huge student population or working in CA, go to Berkeley. If you care more about higher avg salaries and working on the east coast, go to CMU.
