Got into Brown as a transfer, however it’s going to cost me over $30,000 (yes, I would have to pay it off in loans).

So uh, why is Brown worth that much money? Someone make me feel better!

So uh, why is Brown worth that much money? Someone make me feel better!

$30k isn't that much more than the average graduate debt which is near $20K. I mean, Brown isn't perfect but, it's so much more fulfilling and supportive of your goals than any of my friends elsewhere have suggested their institutions, fine as they are, to be. I know a lot of transfers to Brown and the overwhelming consensus is that although it is a bit awkward socially, most are glad they came.

Very true with the money but considering my family income it's more than other schools (say, Amherst) would cost me, at least I'm that's what I'm guessing.

But crashing cliques doesn't bother me lol

Do you mean you have to take out $30,000 in loans ever year until you graduate, or that you will graduate with $30,000 in loans?

If you will graduate with $30,000, then Go TO BROWN. Brown has the best quality of life on the princeton review for a reason. I love Brown. The Brown name will open so many doors, plus it's lack of a core cirriculum will enable you to explore classes you would never before consider helping. Also, because students are taking only the classes that they want to take, you have teachers that are more willing to teach.

GO TO BROWN!

I would graduate with 30k, half of them non-federal.

I'm also worried about the fact that first-years can't have cars on campus.

You can't have cars for 1 year.

I can't have a car ALL FOUR YEARS at Cornell. COnsider yourself Lucky!
You will have $30,000 for 3 years of an amazing education. Some people take out $30,000 EVERY YEAR for four years. Once again, consider yourself lucky.

I still say you should go to Brown!

You could always just rent your own parking space if having a car is that important to you. Look on craigslist.

I would graduate in two years. I saw something about a 6 semester requirement which confused me and I hope is not true. Thx for the parking info.

found 4 spaces for sale on meeting and benefit. didnt look convenient but it said it was..hmm

Honestly, while having a car can be a nice bonus or luxury, I would like to note that Providence is a very walkable city and the city does offer trolley and bus service. Meanwhile, Greyhound, Amtrak and such also are other ways to get around. Buddy, if you have an email address (in your profile?), I'd be more than happy to explain why you must come to Brown -- Feel free to PM me.

Best,
Fred

OK. Spend 30 K. What a stupid thread.

"convince me to spend 30k"

1) It's Brown
2) It's Brown
3) It's Brown
4) You're getting a degree from Brown for 30k

The only way I would think differently is if you received a MUCH better deal from Amherst or you just like it more (which would be strange).

convine you...uhh it's Brown and that's not as much as othe would have to pay..why convince you? it's your choice, either you like it or you don't...

LOL looks like we have some stiff ones in the bunch. This is supposed to be fun not a "jeez this is stupid" thread. I'm trying to learn about Brown more than be convinced to go there, honestly. Keep in mind I've never been to the East so I'm not up in how things work with transportation around there. Where I live, if you want to go anywhere you have to drive there.

So how does that housing lottery work? I've read some but I'm still confused.
