This is pretty urgent seeing as I have to have a decision by may 1st. Anyway, the bottom line is I really like UDel and want to go there but my parents don't really see an advantage of UDel over Rutgers and would rather send me to Rutgers since it's closer to home and tuition is 6k cheaper a year since I'm in state. But I'm really not a big fan of Rutgers, even though they are somewhat similar. So if I could get some advice on how to approach and convince them with this dillema, that'd be great.

You can convince your parents by telling them thet you will pay the $6k difference; get a student loan for whatever the max. is that you can ($2k??) and then earn the rest in a summer job, or work on/off campus for the difference.

I guess that's not the answer you wanted to hear, but then, I am a parent ;)

That said, U.Del is in a boring location, lots of drinking and frat parties. I think Rutgers has a lot to offer with the variety of entertainment, shows, restaurants right there. Plus the academics are the same.

The academics will vary by department - however you are more likely to meet students from all over the country at Delaware. It feels much more like a national institution than Rutgers does.

1) Delaware is much more aesthetically pleasing
2) More selective, and
3) Smaller

this is pretty unfounded. rutgers isnt in a huge urban center and new brunswick is as generic a college town as newark-wilmington.

udel's campus is often considered one of the best looking in the country, while rutgers' campus is often considered one of the worst looking.

better parties at udel, better looking co-eds (by far), smaller student body, smaller classes, nicer dorms, more out of state students, up and coming in the rankings (udel took a huge stride this year in selectivity and quality of applicants), etc...

basically tell your parents that college is a once in a lifetime deal, and that even though udel is 6k a year more than rutgers, youll be much happier there. tell them that you dont want to go to your state u and that you want to branch out a little bit.

also, have they seen the campus?? my god, ask them where they would rather be. drab old nasty rutgers or brick laden, white columned, green delaware? easy choice.

well, I'm finally a blue hen guys, thanks. =)

One question though. I paid the housing and admissions deposit online but I still have to send the housing parental permission form through the mail since I'm still 17. Does that have to be postmarked by may 1st to be guaranteed housing or am I guaranteed housing once I pay the housing deposit?

post mark it on monday and then you'll have nothing to worry about. :) You could also call them and let them know it's coming.
