Cooking Facilities

I understand that microwaves and the like are not officially allowed in the dorms, but given that I don't like using microwaves anyway, I was wondering:

I should probably follow that up with the comment that I've looked over the actual website and know that at least half of the undergraduate dorms contain common rooms with kitchens, but I was wondering if:

a) This is true for ALL of the dorms.
b) If the common rooms are accessible at all hours

Also:

Are small refrigerators/freezers allowed in the dorm rooms?

Thanks in advance!

a) Not all dorms have common rooms with kitchens (Wigglesworth doesn't, for example). But you can use a kitchen in a dorm you don't live in.

b) The kitchens that I'm aware of (Matthews, Strauss) are open at all times.

c) You're definitely allowed to have a small fridge/freezer... in fact, you're essentially allowed to have a microwave/hot plate/rice cooker/toaster over/etc. It's trivial to "hide" them from inspections, most proctors don't care about them, and there's really no penalty for being caught with one.

Finally - if you're really interested in cooking, I'd be sure to put that in your "roommate essay" (that you write after being accepted)... they'd be more likely to put you in a dorm with a kitchen, and with like-minded roommates.

Thanks for your help!

my son lives in Matthews and the kitchen is quite nice. Stove, oven, Microwave, roomy fridge and lot's of counter space.

He and his 2 roommates are going to buy a fridge for their common room, which is also quite large.
