Russian’s actually considerably easier than French, IMHO. It’s so much cleaner and systematic.

I think Mandarin’s easier than French too, for that matter.

What are you interested in, any specific region? Chinese, Latin, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Hawiian, Sanskrit…etc

You do realize he was kidding about Tuvaluan? It has only 17000 speakers.

@kcjchdreamer

Not really, maybe a European language? I’m not really looking for a specific category or anything

@oranged00d

If he was, then oh well. It came up a few times on this thread- I actually looked it up and it sounds interesting but like you said it’s not common so I dunno where I’d ever learn it hahaha.

French is mad easy. I’ve been thinking about taking some Mandarin- writing is difficult, but I’m told the grammar is far less complicated than in Latin-based or Germanic Languages. Plus, i’m decent at the pronunciation part of french, so maybe pitch tones wouldn’t be too hard?

OH, as far as cool useless languages go- Icelandic is somewhat similar to Old English and sounds really cool.

@Izzy

Yeah I heard French isn’t too complicated and it would be easier (?) because I know the basic rules of Spanish, etc

Mandarin grammar is indeed very easy. For one, no verb conjugation, FTW.

French always gave me trouble. I just can’t juggle the seventeen-or-however-many tenses it has. I’m learning Akkadian right now; done with Old Babylonian, and I believe I’m moving onto Standard Babylonian next quarter. It’s absolutely *wonderful/i, so if you’re looking into random languages that are utterly useless … :D

ok, I’m sorry… I forgot it was called Farsi (which I did know, i swear), please forgive my ignorant self… It’s not like the Demonym for someone from Iran isn’t Iranian.

You got the idea. I know you’re completely incapable of making mistakes yourself.

I’ve always wanted to learn Arabic… Russian and any of the Scandinavian languages are pretty cool, too.

I did the Rosetta stone level one of russian. It wasn’t too hard, definitely easier than french. The only tricky part was learning the Cyrillic alphabet, but that only took a day or so.

Also called Persian, hence the cat jokes. Though, technically, there are multiple Iranian languages.

Hey, if I ever say I want to speak Indian or Native American or Saudi Arabian, feel free to make jokes.

Actually, it’s called the Persian language. The Arabics label the Persian language “Farsi.”

Hahaha, I see what you did there. But in all honesty, knowing those helps. A lot.

Not that I’m going to dispute what you’ve said, but the Iranian people I’ve spoken to (which are a sizable amount, although I won’t say I’ve had a lot of experience with them) all use Persian and Farsi interchangeably.

Not all of them are Muslim either, if that makes any difference.
