Coop or Internship at Tamu

Few months ago I was sure that I might get some scholarship at tamu which will eventually come with a $16000 Out-of-State tuition wavier but now I am sensing the reality and it seems that even a penny at tamu would not be there for me at least for my first year of study. I think a coop or an internship at tamu is my only choice of reducing some burden of tuition and I have lots of questions about it! I am from computer engineering so can somebody advise that what is the earliest I can get any coop or internship job; I have heard you cant get it before junior or senior year? Besides, how much of average income would I be able to crack out by cooping and how difficult is it to get a coop or internship job???

thanks in advance.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated…

From experience, the Internship/co-op recruiting at the engineering school is top notch.

Salaries also depend on the industry and company. I know people who did internships at big oil/petroleum firms and made about 20k in a summer.

Keep your GPA as high as possible to get interviews at a variety of companies. Co-ops tend to be easier to obtain than internships due to demand in the fall/spring semesters.
Co-oping is very reasonable from sophomore year onwards, and internships are more readily available during the post sophomore/junior year summers.

Thanks alot andy09!!

Hey Confused786. I am wondering about the same question you posed here. Can you tell me whether interanational students are eligible to do internships at TAMU? Is there any restrictions we gonna face because we are student visa holder? I greatly appreciate your reply. Thanks

Computer engineering probably has a lot of part time job options on campus as well. jobsforaggies.com

I think a lot of departments want help updating their websites or other systems so they hire students to do that part time.

I got 18k interning this summer. I would expect at least $8,000 interning somewhere depending on how good of a candidate and what kind of position you land. You could easily make up to and above 20k in the right positions though.
