I got in to Cooper Union and I know I want to do engineering undergrad, but I am kinda torn between medicine and engineering. What I want to know is, how hard is it to get into med school from Cooper Union. Will med schools accept slightly lower gpas with the knowledge that CU is one of the toughest schools in the country?

i think in general, med schools know that the difficulty level of any engineering major isn't the same thing as, let's say, a bio major

and is cooper really one of the toughest schools in the country?

oh, and if you know- is cooper nationally renown? or like, just regionally?

Cooper is more of a regionally rennown school than a nationally known one. But those that do know of it, know how difficult it is.

Its not that its that hard to get in here (i'm a junior now) its harder to stay here. A lot of the weak are weeded out freshman year. Some people just realize that cooper is not for them - they dont have the motivation or work ethic necessary to thrive. If you work hard (very hard) and stay devoted and already are pretty intelligent to begin with you should make it through.

one of the chemE professors at the open house yesterday talked abt a cooper student who had a 3.0ish gpa and was set on applying to med school, which i guess is considered low. he set up campus visits, and once med school reps saw how competitive cooper was, they admitted him. in fact, he was admitted to 5 med schools (didnt say which).

although, the professor also explained that some med school will understand the difficulty of an engineering major, but some will still compare gpas without much consideration to major.
