Cooper for photo?

does anyone actually go to coop for photo? any friends of friends?

No, you go to Cooper for a general degree in studio art.

Yes we can!
If you want to.
And you can get in if you have stellar Cooper-sh photo portfolio and good grades and princely look plus attitude with no drawing skill whatso ever like last year's most coveted applicant I don’t name a name but quite famous boy in that little circle!
Just be ready to be one of THEM (Cooper cult) and don’t count on getting paying jobs after college.

haha, sounds like a plan.

bears and dogs--

I would love to go to Cooper, concentrating in photo. I'm only a junior, so I have some time, but can you tell me anything else about the program? Also, what does a portfolio need to be "cooper-sh", and how good are good grades... Thanks!

I have HS junior who wants to go to Cooper and be an educated bum, too. I feel for you.
I don’t think we are able to post things here but google it and read livejournal cooperunion community as far as you can going through every sub- replies.
Kids’ works from portfolio and some hometest are posted from years past. I followed last year’s ED kids with as much as interest as presidential primary.
Assuming everyone is telling truth (I know some of them personally from Saturday class) you will see the pattern of Cooper-sh and unCooper-sh by result -got in, differed, rejected.
Read Peter Cooper’s biography or his writings and history of NYC in his era if you haven’t, just to get you started on cult-ing.
If you could by any means (relative, friend?) uproot yourself and move to NYC or nearby suburb so you can attend their Saturday programs and many pre- pre reviews. I would have done that if I were kid !! I would let them if it were my kid. I am dead broke but not gonna move from area code 212 until college thing is done.
About grades and scores, they (Cooper, students, applicants) tell over and over it doesn’t matter as long as your hometest are good for an art school. I don’t buy them. Most kids got in did take all those AP classes or went to IB schools or had choice between ivies and Cooper and you can just smell brain in their essay prompt.
For example, if Cooper asks what movie you like best and why, you answer some dumb Hollywood blockbusters, you are out. You have to be able to name obscure Belgian director or something and dissect it as if it is on your palm. Point here is, it have to be on your palm. You got to know the stuff from your heart.
I guess what I meant to say is, they see you as who you are. If you are meant for them, you are in. We can try but there is not enough time to know everything Cooper-sh and to fake it is the worst thing you could do. Be yourself and love your art and see what happens.
Peter Cooper never wanted his school to become super selective. He wanted classes that kids can go after milked cow or worked at metal shops, people like us. There still is hope.
