Cooper Scholar Final Tuition Cost?

Trying to make our final decision about which school to go to, and of course cost matters. Spoke to financial aid and hard to get a final number. My question is: Is this calculation close to what I should expect to pay? I will use average student 2012 costs sent in our admissions letter, and add about 3-3.5% increase at the end since that seems to be the average increase we were told to expect.

Cost of tuition in-state, Cooper scholarship: $10, 488/year
Housing: Would be honors double: Approx. $5700
Meals: Lets say 21: $2835
Books/Supplies: Average $978, according to our letter received at admission.

Subtotal: Approx. $20,000
- 4,000 Cooper Scholarship

Total: About: $16,000/year + about 3.5% increase of this number for tuition increase

Can someone let me know if I am in the ballpark? It is hard to get an answer when you call financial aid, and it always sounds like I am talking with student volunteers, who are wonderful, but I am not sure they are correct. Would appreciate any information anyone could provide! Thanks so much!

As I noted in another thread, they don’t finalize tuition until state passes budget, usually in June which is why you probably can’t get anyone in FA to commit. But I think you are on target. You will have some miscell. fees (tech, athletic, etc) plus fees for specific academic programs/lab classes. Honors fee is around $350. If you are bringing car and want a garage spot count on around $320/semester (varies by garage). With food, you can change meal plan every semester. We started with 16+ but went down after that. D has never spent that much for books but it could depend on your major.

I’d say that’s pretty accurate. I’d air closer to $22 or 23k for the year… but that includes the many random fees that get added on. (Language labs, science labs, athletics fee, tech fee, etc)

You didn’t budget anything for personal expenses or travel.

Here’s a list of all the charges and fees, as you can see there are a lot of them. You will have to go through and see which apply to you. Many depend on your major or your classes, some are paid by everyone (the technology fee for example):

^^There should be a 2012-13 fee schedule on line that is more current.

I think those are current, they just didn’t update the page title.
