If there was some good to come out of the Columbia US News scandal, it’s that it appeared to have forced many long-term holdouts (BC, Syracuse, Rochester, JHU, and Chicago are ones that come to mind) to start publicly posting their Common Data Set.
Cooper Union not only still isn’t providing a CDS, but also their admissions information in the IPEDS navigator is very incomplete.
Are there any other selective institutions still not providing a CDS here in 2023? Do they expect prospective applicants to regard this choice with something other than suspicion?
It is annoying. Not sure of any of the top 400 schools or so which don’t publish a CDS anymore. I’m sure lots of less known schools don’t (of the 3,000 or so). Here’s something with admit rate by school:
And why not just reduce tuition by the same amount?
The Cooper Union awards all admitted undergraduate students a half-tuition scholarship currently valued at $22,275 per school year.
Because Cooper Union used to be tuition free and a lot of alumni are upset that Cooper Union charges tuition. Alums want to bring back the tuition free policy.
I should also add that while UChicago does provide a single year’s Common Data Set, the ED section is blank, and I’m certain this section is the reason why they were withholding the CDS in the first place.
Their unparalleled application farming and promotion of ED2, coupled with how negatively the higher-ed access community has received the fact that Bates, Tulane, and some others accept up to two-thirds of incoming classes ED in a shameless attempt to drive acceptance rate down and yield rate up, makes it difficult to believe the omission is a coincidence.
