Cooper Union Tuition

<p>According to their website, and I quote,
"Tuition for the 2014–2015 academic year is $39,600 ($19,800 per semester).
Beginning in the Fall of 2014, all incoming students will receive a half-tuition scholarship. The value of this scholarship is approximately $20,000 per year ($10,000 per semester). Additional financial aid will be provided to the neediest students to help cover tuition, housing, food, books, supplies, etc. The amount of additional aid will be based upon a student’s demonstrated financial need. Students must file both a FAFSA and CSS profile form to be considered for additional financial aid. Please note that Cooper Union will also offer merit scholarships to exceptional students. Cooper Union will continue to use a need-blind admissions process meaning that a student's ability to pay will not impact our admissions decisions."</p>

<p>Anybody that went to Cooper this year (2014, freshman or not) that can comment on how well this has benefited you or other students you know? How much extra financial aid would they be willing to dish?
Is it a good enough benefit to consider going to this school? Thank you!!!!</p>

actually i am also curious how merit aid works now that they have a tuition model and the highest room and board expense probably in the nation. How does a prospective art student from a middle class family qualify for merit aid?

Even with the high room and board, with the half-tuition scholarship Cooper Union’s full cost of attendance is still cheaper than a lot of other schools of its caliber/reputation. Not quite the incredible deal it was before, but still not bad - particularly if they are still kicking in some financial aid and additional merit.
