I look over at the chances and acceptence threads in the college forums, and I almost feel like crying. All the acceptees seem to have so much more amazing stats or ECs than me that it looks like my dreams of attending my #1 school have a negative probability of coming to pass.

So I was wondering a) if anyone else is feeling the same way, and b) if anyone hand good tips for dealing with it.

CC represents a very small fraction of the admissions pool. It consists of the most neurotic and anal students and parents (and I include myself in this category, though with less stellar stats. ;))

Get away from this place! (Or rather, just stay away from WAMC.)

It's a fantastic resource for any admissions queries, however.

If you believe you are seriously disadvantaged in your college selection (and have learned by now that you don't stand a chance after carefully looking over admissions data at your choices) there is still time to apply to some rolling admissions schools to provide a safer net.

Your feelings of being rejected are quite adamant now - in the case that you are rejected at your number one school, I'd like you to take a glance at the colleges that major leaders went to from the Fortune 500 listing. Not all attended HYPSM. Regardless of where you attend, you can be successful with the right attitude and diligence.

Hey Random Bob, I know the feeling too! In fact, I feel that way every day. The problem with me is I am excellent in just about every subject except for math, where I really struggle. I'm extremely self-motivated, and not getting into one of my dream colleges (cornell, stanford, ucla, ucb), might destroy me. :(

I would love to give you some advice, but since I can't seem to get over my own feelings of inadequacy, my advice might not be too helpful.

What I've been trying to do is think of reasons why I'm a cool person, and then remember that while academics are important, the most important part of living is to enjoy yourself and have a little fun once and a while.

My brother didn't get into any of the colleges he wanted to, went to a community college (most Typ A'ers would consider suicide, j/k), and transfered to a good university. He's having the time of his life, right now.

And there's this myth about getting into these top notch colleges for undergrad. Yeah, it's nice, but it's not the end all be all. My older cousin got rejected to Harvard, Yale, et. al, ended up going to Arizona State (where, according to him, life consisted of parties, girls, and beer) for undergrad, and is now going to Harvard Law.

CC = top 3% of students in the country
Highly selective schools = 65 of about 3500
You might want to take a look at the other 3445...because with that many opations there has to be a college that is offering what you want, and one that where you can gain admission.
