copying recs from the common app?

If you are applying to a few schools that use the Common App, is it ok to give your teachers ONE copy of the teacher evaluation form? Or should you make a copy for each school? Will the teacher fill out the form and then make a copy of it?

I believe that teachers can attach a separate sheet - at least for MIT (not common app). Otherwise when doing a rec for MIT, Stanford, and Harvard, they'd have to rewrite the thing 3 times.

Can anyone else answer this question? I would like to know, too.

I would ask the teachers and do it the way they ask you to.

Be sure to provide stamped and addressed envelopes as well.

I'm talking about the actual form that they have to fill out (I'm assuming that they will attach the ACTUAL rec on a separate sheet).

Yeah, so am I. They might want to attach a separate sheet; they may not. It doesn't hurt to ask.

If asking is inconvenient, just make copies. If a recommender wants to work from one, s/he will just throw the extra ones away.

I asked my teacher today and she said that she only needs ONE copy of the evaluation form (she will make the copies herself).

Also, make sure that you give your teachers a pre-stamped, pre addressed manilla envelope for each college you are applying to.

It's a classy gesture to bring copies of the form for each of the schools that use the common ap. Otherwise, you're leaving it to the techer to do the extra work of making the copies him/herself. Sure, making copies is not a big deal, but writing recs is hard enough as it is, and it's better to be thorough and thoughtful.

Provide each teacher with the following:

Evaluation form needed- generally one standard form is always acceptable unless stated othewise- teachers will make copies

Envelope addressed and stamped to the University
You may note recommendation on the envelope

Make sure to have a return address label on the envelope

You may include on the evaluation form your SS#, address, birthdate, and of course Name (teachers have been known to incorrectly spell a name-you don't want that)

If the teacher provides his/her address as well the university often will acknowledge receipt of the recommendation and the teacher will provide that to the student- so the student may keep track of what is in his/her file

I thought it would make more sense for the teacher to fill out the evaluation form and then make the copies. Otherwise, if I had made the copies, she would have had to fill the same form out 4 times.
